Now, before I start on the post itself, a sort of an apology. I was meant to go into school last Thursday and help the third group to complete and polish their pages. Unfortunately, a personal situation made that impossible which meant that, for the whole class; they had to go out onto the grass and have a game of rounders instead of working on computers for some of the afternoon!
Anyway, today saw the third group come into the Den for their main session on the laptops and, I have to say, some of the work was excellent. Most of the children really took the project seriously and did all they could to make their page as colourful, informative and stand out from the others as they could.
We had some issues; slow network, images not wanting to be moved around screens and other similar tech-based situations; but they all did the best they could and have produced something as pairs that they can be rightly proud of.
When you think of what they can now do: research the subject for their page, get used to new software that is totally web-based, consider layout (theme, colour, size and fonts, plus think about types and number of images to be used, their layout on the page, suitable language and information to explain it all), the formatting of the page using a main page image, header title, main text, selection and editing of one or more image, layout of the page and the various elements and then checking the spelling, punctuation and grammar of their page - that's a lot of skills they have used to get their page to a place where it is ready to be published!
Remember that they have only spent a couple of hours working on this and when they started it they had no experience of websites or the software and systems used to create a page. This is a great achievement and now it is just a matter of their teacher reviewing the site as a whole and decide when and how it will go online!
Well done to all the Class; they've done something to be rightly proud of and I hope you will be as proud of them as I am.
